Seven Years of Abundance and Seven Years of Hunger
According to legend, the pharaoh then dispatched Joseph to interpret his dream. Joseph told the pharaoh that his dream foretold of seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine in Egypt. While this was not good news for the Egyptians, the pharaoh was so impressed by Joseph that he gave him a prominent title—he named him as his vizier—a top official and advisor.
The Good Times
As a result, Joseph assisted the Pharaoh and the Egyptians in preparing for the difficult years ahead. The former slave encouraged the pharaoh to preserve any excess grain during the seven years of abundance so that when the seven years of famine began, the grain stockpiled may help Egypt survive. According to legend, Joseph's ability to interpret dreams aided Egypt's survival during the seven-year famine.
