Celebrity Actors Who Hated Playing Their Most Recognized Roles

There was no hope for Andrew Lincoln in Love Actually.

Andrew Lincoln's breakthrough role was as Rick on The Walking Dead. But before he was killing zombies, he was falling in love in Love, Actually. Critics called his character, a man in love with his best friend's new wife, slightly unsettling because he videos the couple's wedding and pays no attention to anyone else than the bride. “I got to portray the lone guy who doesn't get the girl in one of the most romantic movies ever made,” the actor remarked. “Now I'm stuck playing the part of a creepy stalker.”

As far as Christopher Plummer was concerned, Captain von Trapp was boring.

An all-time favorite, The Sound of Music is arguably the pinnacle of the genre. Iconic melodies and lovely characters populate this uplifting tale of a family's heroic flight from Nazi Germany in World War II. Why wouldn't you enjoy it? It turns out that Christopher Plummer, who played Captain von Trapp, had mixed feelings about the role. The actor was cited as remarking that his efforts to make Von Trapp more happy were like “flogging a dead horse” since Von Trapp was boring. He continued to call it “that movie” and to bemoan his role in subsequent reunions until his untimely death. The Natalie Portman and James Franco film Your Highness bombed spectacularly, regardless of expectations. Only slightly more than half of the film's budget was recouped at the box office for the adventure comedy about a prince who sets out to rescue his betrothed. In a later interview with GQ Magazine, James Franco referred to the monarch as “Your Highness.” Okay, I'd say that's very accurate. Really, that movie is terrible. You simply cannot avoid that.
