The Hazard of Traffic

After barely five days, the number of traffic outside Bethel began to increase significantly. A 20-mile length of road leading from Max Yasgur's farm was crowded with thousands of cars. Locals were left trapped, and many performers were rescued by helicopter. Consider attempting to locate your Volkswagen bus among hundreds of others that look the same. The first to find parking was the last to leave. You can imagine my concern. Artists who were impatient were obliged to improvise or make themselves at home until traffic cleared.

The Hippies Were Against the Vietnam War

The attitude during the event was clearly anti-Vietnam War, as many Americans began to consider the battle as pointless and much too protracted. The Army, on the other hand, airlifted in food, medics, and even festival performers from the United States. An announcer allegedly informed the crowd, “They're with us, folks; they're not against us.” As they arrived at the event, people cheered and greeted them. The folks were grateful for their support. Emergency medical personnel were evacuated away from the area and safely transported to nearby hospitals.
