Not Every Performer Will Make It

John Lennon consented to take part in Woodstock, but despite having a Canadian visa, the US government rejected him access. The Jeff Beck Group, which had disbanded just weeks before the festival, and Iron Butterfly, who had been stuck at a New York airport due to a travel cancellation, were also unable to participate.

Jimi Hendrix Only Performed in Front of a Subset of the Audience

The New York Post labeled Jimi Hendrix's rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” the “single finest moment of the 1960s,” but most festivalgoers missed it since he hit the stage at 9 a.m. on Monday, by which time most had packed their stuff and left. Despite the fact that the audience was significantly less than in previous days, Jimi could still sense their love and excitement.
