More people attempted to attend the festival than actually attended. As seen in this photo, traffic was so severe that many spectators preferred to park miles away and walk to the festival grounds. “The New York State Thruway is closed, dude,” declared Arlo Guthrie on stage, and getting to the festival's heart was far more difficult than getting to work on a Monday morning.
