Wife and the Host
“By attending the event, we may turn America's current hardships into a source of optimism for a brighter and more peaceful future,” said Max Yasgur, owner of the acres of land where the event was place. His wife accompanied him. Yasgur was 53 years old and a father of two when he died in 1973. Rolling Stone Magazine published a full-page obituary in his honor, making him one of the few non-musicians in history to get such an honor.
The Health Department was worried
According to the Washington Post, “no health department, nor any Woodstock-generation parents or grandparents, would allow a festival where youngsters eat chopped veggies from garbage cans.” According to press reports and stage announcements, two babies were born at the festival. It's still strange to imagine babies being born at an open-air event.
