The nine soldiers looked for a way out of the thick vegetation. At night, they attempted to lie on improvised mounds of grass, but neither the mounds nor the bugs let them get much rest. Walking through the scratchy grass was unpleasant, but resting wasn't much better either. That, alas, was more than just a difficulty; it was an actual hell on earth.
