Compelled to propose?
Why did he propose if Prince Charles was truly conflicted about Diana and their relationship? The closest we might ever get to a definitive answer came from royal specialist Robert Jobson. According to Jobson, Charles informed a friend that leaving the relationship would be “cataclysmic.” After all, he was over 30 and yet single. External pressures were also purportedly present. Charles' grandmother, the Queen Mother, apparently considered Diana the ideal wife, while his father, Prince Philip, reportedly “pushed” him to propose or break up with her.
On the eve of their wedding, Charles allegedly told Diana that he didn't love her
A couple's wedding night is intended to be spectacular. It's the last moment of loving peace before the flurry of excitement and celebrations. According to one close acquaintance, Charles and Diana experienced the polar opposite. Diana's friend and personal astrologer Penny Thornton revealed in a 2020 documentary that Charles told Diana he didn't love her on the eve of their wedding, which naturally saddened her. Several hours before the wedding, Charles reportedly informed his companions that Diana was “a child” who didn't appear old enough to be out of school, let alone married.
