Denying responsibility
It's disturbing that such a harsh, devious strategy was allegedly used against a single mother. What had Guthrie to say about himself? What could he possibly justify? For the greater part of a decade, he felt entirely fine in letting his tenant pay his electricity bills.
Never signed a lease
Patricia said that despite renting a space from Guthrie for eight years, the two had never agreed on rental terms, let alone her paying his costs. Not only that, but they'd never put pen to paper to sign a lease.
