Fabulous Four
Since the doctor implanted a total of four embryos, everyone knew that, in the worst case, all four embryos could turn into a foetus and lead to a healthy pregnancy. But this was a very unlikely thing to happen. In fact, it was more likely that none of the four would stick than that all four would. “The doctor made sure that everyone knew the possibility of four babies, since that was a possibility,” Johnston told ABC News. “But we had been trying for so long that all we wanted to do was increase our chances of getting at least one.”
The Crucial Moment
As you might guess, Annie and Joby Johnston had to wait for the next few days with a lot of pain. Every day started the same way, with the thought that this could be the day they finally got the news they had been desperately hoping for for the past five years, or it could be the day their last hope was shattered. Before they got the phone call from Dr. Jaina Lindauer, they had to wait for a long and hard nine days. And what she was about to say was going to shock them all.
