Protective gear and a raft
By May of that year, 1962, Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers had chipped away enough concrete to reach the unsecured passageway. While the openings were certainly not wide, they were just right for them to pass through. The group then focused on building a raft and life vests out of repurposed raincoats. Surprisingly, they managed to collect more than 50 of them without drawing attention to themselves. It would be impossible to leave the island without the life vests and the raft.
