Final Showdown
Could they get out of there safely? For the most part of the prison's history, no one had ever successfully escaped from Alcatraz. Many inmates had previously attempted escape, but none had been successful. Although dangerous, the inmates decided that the alternative was worse: dying in prison. They were too taken with the idea of independence to give much thought to the potential dangers. On the evening of June 11th, the crew members hid the dummies in their sleeping quarters, popped the vents, and made their way through.
