The Inmates Who Planned the 1962 Breakout from Alcatraz.

Traveling to the Beach

The three of them reached the top without a hitch. Now that they had made it to the top, they had to (quietly) make their way over the roughly 100 feet separating the two buildings. The inmates then used pipes to scale a distance of 50 feet down the prison walls. The ride let them off close to the locker rooms and washrooms. They had to sneak past the guards, but they managed to do so successfully. The group walked down to the water's edge to prepare the raft and life jackets.
