Analyzing the Correspondence
Law enforcement was eager to examine the letter itself to verify if it was the real deal before making any guarantees or public declarations. To learn as much as they could, they looked closely at the letter's writing and physical structure. The letter was examined thoroughly for fingerprints and DNA by specialists at the FBI laboratory. During their time in Alcatraz, they also matched the handwriting to samples taken from the Anglin brothers and Frank Morris.
