Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate love and romance, but did you know the holiday's origins? It is definitely not as lovely as you thought. The holiday dates back to the Roman feast of Lupercalia. Valentine's day involved sacrificing a dog and a goat. The goat hide was cut into strips and dipped in blood before being used to slap women. This was practiced in the hopes of making them more fertile. But that's not all – women had to place their names in an urn, and bachelors picked a name, then they were paired off to live together for a year and make babies.
